Travis Matthews, 20 years old, New York City. Three words that describe me are Humble, loving, and creative

herbeautyspeaks : When did you realize that you had a unique sense of style and interest in wanting to express yourself through fashion ?

Travis : It’s ironic because looking back throughout high school I had no sense of fashion or style. But as soon as I graduated it just flowed upon me. I realized I had an unique sense when I decided not to follow trends, but to find and create my own style. I realized I had an interest in wanting to express myself through fashion when I realized that your appearance is everything, and also that the outfit I have on determines my whole mood.

herbeautyspeaks : What makes you stand out from the crowd? What are some things that most don’t truly know about you ?

Travis : The thing that makes me stand out from the crowd is that I don’t follow trends, I wear what ever makes me feel at peace. I prefer the vintage look, to me it’s seems that you actually put time, interest, and effort into the outfit. Butt now I’m leaning more towards the classy fashion, that really says a lot about a male’s ambition. I switch up pretty good. One thing people don’t truly know about me is that I have a very conscientious mind. I wish the world was what it was really meant to be. Filled with love, wisdom, and productivity for the good. I think fashion and music can help lead the way to change.

herbeautyspeaks : Do you face any negative commentary from others pertaining to your style and choice of fashion ? If so, how do those words and/or reactions make you feel ? Does the negativity affect you more than it should ?

Travis : I don’t really face any negative commentary about my style, I think mainly because I don’t dress the same like most people, Jordan’s and expensive jeans and shirts. I am a strong believer in the saying “fashion is trend, style is in you” one thing I am proud of is my sneaker collection, I prefer vans over everything else, it’s comfortable. I dream of one day owning over 50 pairs, I’m on number four right now.

Michaela, some call me Mickey, I’m from New York, and three words that describe my style are Unique, Well-rounded, and Anomaly.

herbeautyspeaks : When did you realize that you had a unique sense of style and interest in wanting to express yourself through fashion ?

Michaela : I realized that I had a unique sense of style and interest to express myself through fashion was from the 4th grade. My mom by this time stopped picking out my clothes. I’d put so many different outfits together. Ever since I was younger than I was in 4th grade I’d always dress up and have my own little fashion show. I literally thought I was the hottest thing on the block. But since then I’ve always had my own style of not copying with what everyone else was wearing.

herbeautyspeaks : What makes you stand out from the crowd? What are some things that most don’t truly know about you ?

Michaela : What makes me stand out from the crowd is the way I carry myself, even though I am 16 some people feel I should act and carry myself like a regular teen. But by the way I’ve been raised, I am like an old soul. So because of that it carried out into my style. I’ll wear anything that comes to my mind that day of school. What people don’t truly know about me from social media is I am a quiet as a mouse. I am very shy and hardly outspoken but my style speaks for itself.

herbeautyspeaks : Do you face any negative commentary from others pertaining to your style and choice of fashion ? If so, how do those words and/or reactions make you feel ? Does the negativity affect you more than it should ?

Michaela : Many times during school people would look at me in a why like “what is she wearing” and so forth. People would always tell me to take this and that off and I’d tell them no let me rock. The words and reactions make me want to step my game up and show that your words will only make me better. But, at one time I had trouble handling negativity but I sure have grown out of it. I have people in my school who used to laugh and carry on about what I wore who now want to copy my style and even people who are older than me. I set trends in my school but I never boast, I carry my style with a humble confidence that I hope not to rub anyone the wrong way.

herbeautyspeaks : What is your name or what you prefer to be called ? Age ? Location ? Lastly, tell us three words that describes your sense of style and overall personality.

My name is Tee, I’m 23 years young and I was born and raised in St.Louis but I’ve been living in Chicago for the past five years. My style is all about Simplicity, Edge, and being Bold… My personality is dry humor, I’m shy if I don’t know you that well but around my friends I’m goofy as hell. Some of my friends and coworkers call me a Sour patch kid.

herbeautyspeaks : When did you realize that you had a unique sense of style and interest in wanting to express yourself through fashion ?

Tee : I knew I had a sense of style since I was a kid… my parents gave me the freedom to dress myself around the age of 6 or 7. I didn’t really start taking fashion really serious until about 2 years ago… my friends would ask me to go shopping with them or style them for shoots or if they had a date or something. Once I found my niche I ran with it and decided to take fashion serious.

IMG_4407IMG_4406

Tee : I think what makes me stand out from others is how resourceful I am…. and when I say resourceful I mean I’ll turn a oversize blazer into a skirt and make it look cool and chic as some would say… I just think my style is effortless and I’m always evolving and I just continue to do me and trip off trends.. Something that most don’t know about me is that I love gangsta movies… watching 90’s cartoons Doug and Hey Arnold are my favorites!! I get a lot of inspiration from them. My alter ego is Tisha she has a strong New York (East Coast) accent.

herbeautyspeaks : Do you face any negative commentary from others pertaining to your style and choice of fashion? If so, how do those words and/or reactions make you feel? Does the negativity affect you more than it should ?

Tee : I really don’t face any negative commentary… some may have a weird look on their face but I just turn it into a positive. Some just live in a box or may not be into fashion so I like to inspire others with my style. If some people say negative things, I just give them a blank stare .. which I am very good at and keep it moving.

My name is Jasmine I prefer jassie, or jassieuo. I’m 23. Currently living in Chicago. Three words that describe my sense of style would be regal, odd, and innovative.

jassieherbeautyspeaks : When did you realize that you had a unique sense of style and interest in wanting to express yourself through fashion ?

Jassieuo : I’ve always loved fashion, back in high school I was known as the girl that always wore something odd. I’m always learning about my personal style what I like and don’t like but I really discovered it back in Detroit (my hometown), where I first started taking self portraits.

herbeautyspeaks : What makes you stand out from the crowd? What are some things that most don’t truly know about you ?

jasjassieuoJassieuo : What I think makes me stand out is my personality, I incorporate that in my work, style, and everything I do. I don’t think most know I’m from Detroit. Being chi bound has made me seem like a native Chicagoan.

herbeautyspeaks : Do you face any negative commentary from others pertaining to your style and choice of fashion? If so, how do those words and/or reactions make you feel? Does the negativity affect you more than it should ?

Jassieuo : Yes, but I’ve grown to realize it’s not even about what I have on most times. Some people just don’t understand the idea of someone being comfortable enough to look good for themselves. Those things never bother me, you gotta be yourself in this world whether people like it or not.

Logen … 23 … Buffalo NY … 1. Spontaneous 2. Controversial 3. Comfortable

herbeautyspeaks : When did you realize that you had a unique sense of style and interest in wanting to express yourself through fashion?

FullSizeRender(9)Logen : When I was in 8th grade my brother started going to FIT for college and always came home with fascinating pieces of clothes and accessories … I remember getting beat up for wearing his things all the time without asking … but no matter how bad the beating it never stopped me from taking his clothes over and over again … Id risk getting beat up just to look good … It was deeper than looking good for my peers to think I’m cool … Fashions another language not so many people will ever understand it’s more than just putting on the clothes I was able to express myself without speaking in an artistic manner … Now he asks me to wear my clothes … Funny how things work out … We’re 5 years apart.

herbeautyspeaks : What makes you stand out from the crowd? What are some things that most don’t truly know about you?

Logen : I feel that my presence/aura is super wide and heavy … I think that makes me stand out … People don’t know how fascinated I am with body language.

herbeautyspeaks : Do you face any negative commentary from others pertaining to your style and choice of fashion? If so, how do those words and/or reactions make you feel? Does the negativity affect you more than it should ?

Logen : Depending where you are mentally negative commentary can be extremely helpful towards your confidence, call me crazy … But I always say if they’re not questioning what your wearing your probably doing something wrong … Innovation is key although there are severe levels to this thing we call “fashion” … Negative comments or gestures towards the clothes I pay for and put on my back honestly gives me energy it fuels me in the right way … it’s definitely not an upsetting experience.

GEherbeautyspeaks : What is your name, or what you prefer to be called. As well as your age (if you don’t mind sharing), your location, and 3 words that describe your sense of style / overall personality.

My name is Barbara, which I used to wonder why I had that name growing up because you don’t meet a lot of young women named Barbara anymore, but one day my mother gave me a name card that had the meaning of my name and a bible verse related to it I started to realize the name was perfect for me. Barbara means beautiful stranger which is the name of my blog in Italian, and at this point in life I definitely feel like a person who’s beauty is still unknown to the world. I am twenty something years old. I like to keep that a mystery now and keep people guessing. I am located about 30 minutes outside Atlanta, GA and I would say that three words to describe me would be……determined, creative, and passionate, but I would also say that I’m very clumsy, corny, and curious.

herbeautyspeaks : When did you realize that you had a unique sense of style and interest in wanting to express yourself through fashion?

GEBarbara : For as long as I could remember I was always very creative. During Summer vacation from school I piled my days up with fun little art projects that involved anything. I can even recall locking myself up in my room during a pair of old jeans into a denim purse. I guess I knew about the denim craze even in the second grade. As far as fashion as style, my mother always looked and still to this day looks nice, my mother taught me the importance of color coordination, and I think she values that rule of thumb more than I do now. My mother gave me a foundation. By the time I was old enough to really examine what I and others were wearing, which for me started in about second grade, I really valued looking nice. My focus was really on trends, and the whole concept of what was in at the moment. By the time I was in my second semester of my freshman year in college the urge for taking chances just came over me. I wore what I wanted, how I wanted, simply because I wanted too. I was never an openly emotional being, and the thought of sharing my emotions made me cringe, although I am realizing the importance of expressed emotion as I get older, so it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I realized style was truly an outlet for me. I can show you how I was feeling just by putting on a certain wash of jeans, or the style selection of my shoes. I rather explain to you how I’m feeling by what I’m wearing than say anything at all.

herbeautyspeaks : What makes you stand out from the crowd? What are some things that most don’t truly know about you?

Barbara :  I find this question so funny, because I never thought I stood out. Growing up my main goal was to just simply fit in. I only knew standing out to be an bad thing, and if it was a good thing, then it was something I personally didn’t think I could achieve. That sounds so sad. Now that I am older I have realized a few things that make me my own unique person. I don’t think people would expect to know that I am a very emotional personal, I am just not open with it. I am one of the clumsiest people you may ever meet, I wonder everyday what my purpose here is, and I am scared I may not know.

herbeautyspeaks : Do you face any negative commentary from others pertaining to your style and choice of fashion? If so, how do those words and/or reactions make you feel? Does the negativity affect you more than it should ?

GEBarbara : I think the only person who really has off commentary with what I wear is my mother, but what are moms for. As sad as it is to say, I grew up feeling very invisible and unnoticed, so I still feel like people really don’t pay attention to me or what I’m wearing. When I get positive feedback I am always so amazed because it makes me think “Are people really paying attention to me ?”. If there were a ton of negative reactions, at this point I don’t think I would care. Growing up, I let the fear of public opinion stop me from doing and saying certain things, and acting certain ways. All in all, if you let public opinions, both good and bad, force you to act and not act a certain way you are just doing yourself a disservice, as well as all the other people who need to know the great person that you are. I will never let a negative minded person who produces negative minded comments keep me from being the best me I can and need to be.

IMG_4546(2)herbeautyspeaks : What is your name, or what you prefer to be called. As well as your age (if you mind sharing), your location, and 3 words that describe your sense of style / overall personality.

My name is Igee Okafor. I am 20 years old, and I live in New York. Three words that best describe my sense of style would be clean, sharp and simplistic. Three words that best describe my personality would be optimistic, vibrant, and bold.

IMG_4553herbeautyspeaks : When did you realize that you had a unique sense of style and interest in wanting to express yourself through fashion ?

Igee : I do not think there was ever a time I “realized” that I had a “unique” sense of style per say. As a child, I grew up surrounded by art. Whether it was through coloring, drawing, acting and so on. I always found that I had a perception of how I wanted things to look or be. At such a young age, I was fully aware of some sort of coordination. I knew that I wanted a certain color scheme; I knew that I wanted my coloring to stay inside the lines; I recognized my own version of beauty through my art. Playing with colors and patterns while maintaining an element of order plays into how I fell in love with personal style and fashion because I am able to work with those elements.

herbeautyspeaks : What makes you stand out from the crowd? What are some things that most don’t truly know about you ?

IMG_4547Igee : I do not typically believe I stand out from the crowd because I do believe that there are a lot of people similar to me all over the world. I think the things that make you special are the irreplaceable and tangible things that make you who you are. For me, this is my background, my personal struggles, my lifestyle, my friends, my aspirations and ideas. Some things that most do not truly know about me? That’s a tough one. Well, I really love music. I listen to almost every genre of music that has ever existed. During my younger years, I participated in musical theater. I sang, danced and acted. I was a cheerleader in high school and I have also wanted to be in a boy band for the longest time. If you have that job for me, that would be lovely!

herbeautyspeaks : Do you face any negative commentary from others pertaining to your style and choice of fashion ? If so, how do those words and/or reactions make you feel ? Does the negativity affect you more than it should ?

IMG_4555

Igee : No, I do not often face any immense negative commentary from anyone as it pertains to my clothing choices. Sometimes, people may not agree with a certain clothing item but it usually does not rattle me if the criticism is constructive. I am a very confident person so, as long as I enjoy what I’m wearing, nothing else matters. I try to live a very positive life. Not saying that I do not take any opinions to heart but again, if it’s constructive, I am humble enough to admit it and work on it if necessary. People are going to have lots of opinions because that is just the way human beings are programmed. The good thing is, I also have an opinion and my opinion is what makes me my own person. I also surround myself with people who inspire me, and respect me. Those people are enough for guidance.

My name is Taliah Wharton, I’ll be 19 in May. I’m from Philadelphia, PA… Three words that I would use to describe my style and overall personality would be: mature, sporty, and.. open-minded.

herbeautyspeaks : When did you realize that you had a unique sense of style and interest in wanting to express yourself through fashion ?

Processed with VSCOcam with g3 presetTaliah : I always thought that I had a good sense of fashion and style, but in hindsight I really wasn’t doing anything too impressive in my eyes until I graduated high school. That was when I broke out of my routine of always having to wear uniforms and I finally stopped caring about what everyone thought of how I looked and/or what I did. I wish I would’ve realized this a lot sooner but I’m glad it happened.

herbeautyspeaks : What makes you stand out from the crowd? What are some things that most don’t truly know about you ?

Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 presetTaliah : I think I stand out a little more from the crowd because I’m a very reserved person. I don’t wear things that are revealing nor do I speak or carry myself in ways that I would be embarrassed about later. For girls my age, I think that is a very big deal. How you carry yourself as a woman is extremely important and I don’t want to be anything else but respected, honestly.

herbeautyspeaks : Do you face any negative commentary from others pertaining to your style and choice of fashion ? If so, how do those words and/or reactions make you feel ? Does the negativity affect you more than it should ?

Taliah : Most people that aren’t into the same things as me usually think that I dress like a ‘grandma’, I get that a lot. But as soon as a celeb is seen wearing it then its instantly cool, I guess that’s how things go these days. Today I can honestly say that other people’s words or reactions don’t have an impact on my life because I love and accept myself in every way that I am and I’m grateful to finally see things in this light.

herbeautyspeaks : When did you realize that you had a unique sense of style and interest in wanting to express yourself through fashion?

Jasmine : I realized I had a unique sense of style when I was in the 8th grade. I remember staying up at night, putting my outfits together and color coordinating them. I loved it and as I grew older, my fashion sense evolved.

Jasmine : I think what makes me stand out from the crowd is not being afraid to be different and being able to pull off just about anything. I like that I can rock an elegant look one day and then switch it up with a pair of J’s and a snapback the next! I love being bold and finding new ways to create my own style. I go with what I like and that’s what matters most. I’m not too sure what many may not know about me. There are probably too many things to mention! Lol.

Jasmine : I honestly haven’t experienced any negative comments regarding my choice of fashion. I can humbly say that even the most boldest of outfits are usually complimented on. The key is CONFIDENCE. The confidence you exude will make others a believer in you and in what you wear. It’s okay to be yourself!
